An Intro To Surf Basins

Surf Basins are quickly becoming one of the most iconic attractions in the water attraction industry, but their successful design, implementation, and operation require collaboration across multiple disciplines. This introductory session brings together perspectives from a current waterpark operator, a leading wave technology provider, and an aquatic engineering expert to explore the fundamentals of surf basins development and management. Tom Lochtefeld chaired the effort to develop and recently publish the F3665-25 ASTM Standard Practice for Classification, Design, Manufacture, Construction, Maintenance, and Operation of Controlled Surf Basins. Attendees will gain insight into design considerations, operational best practices, guest experience effects, owner/operator responsibilities, risk assessment requirements, and emerging innovations shaping the future of surfing attractions.
